This Sunday of 20 september Dudutki open-air museum will host a unique event. Beauties from more than 60 countries will take part in national costume parade. The program of the event includes folk clothing of all the participating countries: from Costa-Rica to Afghanistan. The event is closely connected with the international beauty contest “Miss Intercontinental 2009”, which is going to be held in Minsk. In the competition and the parade Belarus will be represented by 20 year-old Maria Yesman - student of the Belarusian State University Law department. Last year Lyubov Yakovina competed for Belarus.
The contest itself is held since 1971. Back then the event was hosted by the island of Aruba. The island authorities wanted the competition to attract additional tourists. Brilliant work of the organizers, who set the standards and regulations for the beauty contest was the reason for success of “Miss Intercontinental” for over 30 years.
The winner’s crown of the contest is called “Oriental Holy Water”. It was inspired by water as a symbol of feminine beauty and purity. “Oriental Holy Water” is more expensive than any other crown used in beauty contests. It’s worth 361.446 USD. The crown contains 720 diamonds, the heaviest of which weight over 50 carat.
